The older iMovie 9.0.9 is not really compatible with the newer systems since Yosemite. Unfortunately, the download URL he recommended refuses to work, forcing me to download iMovie HD 6.0.2. For me the App Store is only showing iMovie 10.1.4, the most recent version, and this version requires OS X 10.11.2, so you cannot run it on your system.
